Comet Barges

The Comet barge is an early invention of Ufe Gemtooth. Its entire purpose is to reach a belt of asteroids and attach itself to their surface, where it will travel an entire solar rotation before detaching, and traveling to its final destination delivering precious materials.

Description

Cometbarges are large flat Sky Sailers with small sails. They have crab like steel legs that extend below the flat platform. The crew dwell in a small barrel like structure towards the aft of the vessel. The crew quarters is often outfitted with all the ships function crystals as well as food stuffs, beds, and tool storage.

When a comet barge launches it uses small solar sails along the sides of the platform, often waiting for good solar weather before a launch. Once in flight towards an asteroid they usually arrive in a couple of days, after which they will use their solar sails to orient the vessel for a landing. The crab like legs will extend grasping the asteroid within range before anchoring into the rock.
